What is BPI Madness Limit?

The BPI Madness Limit is a separate credit limit that BPI gives on top of your regular credit limit, but it’s specifically reserved for installment purchases. Think of it like a “bonus” limit that you can only use for big-ticket items paid in installments, such as appliances, gadgets, or travel packages.

Here’s the key idea:

  • Your regular credit limit is used for straight purchases (like groceries, dining, or online shopping)
  • Your Madness Limit is used for installment transactions only

This means you can make large installment purchases without eating up your main credit limit too much.

PURCHASES

This is where most people get confused, so it helps to think of the Madness Limit as something that works behind the scenes during an installment purchase.

When you use your BPI credit card for an installment, the process usually unfolds in three stages: approval, allocation, and repayment.

At the point of purchase, the transaction is first treated like a normal credit card charge. If you’re buying something worth ₱60,000, BPI checks whether your available credit (including your Madness Limit) can cover the full amount.

In simple terms:

  • The full purchase amount is approved upfront
  • Your total available limit (regular + Madness Limit) is considered

After approval, the next step is what makes Madness Limit unique.

Instead of permanently deducting the amount from your regular credit limit, BPI assigns it to your Madness Limit, as long as there’s enough available. This allows you to keep your main credit line free for everyday spending.

To summarize the allocation:

  • The installment amount is charged to your Madness Limit first
  • Your regular credit limit stays mostly untouched
  • If needed, BPI can split the transaction between both limits

For example, if your Madness Limit is ₱50,000 and your purchase is ₱70,000, the first ₱50,000 goes to Madness Limit, while the remaining ₱20,000 is charged to your regular credit limit.

One last thing to remember: not all installment transactions automatically go to your Madness Limit. It usually depends on the merchant offer or your eligibility under BPI programs.

CREDIT TO CASH

It’s also worth noting that the Madness Limit isn’t limited to store purchases. In some cases, it can be used for BPI’s Credit to Cash offers where you convert part of your available limit into cash payable in installments. In simple terms, BPI Credit to Cash lets you turn your credit limit into cash that you can use for expenses outside of card payments, then repay it in fixed monthly terms.

From a bank’s perspective, installment purchases are more predictable since they’re paid over time. That’s why BPI encourages them by giving you a dedicated limit.

For cardholders, this creates a few practical benefits:

  • You can preserve your regular credit limit for everyday expenses
  • You can afford bigger purchases without maxing out your card
  • You get better cash flow management through fixed monthly payments

Let’s make it more concrete. Imagine you’re planning to buy a refrigerator worth ₱40,000 on a 12-month installment plan.

Without Madness Limit:

  • Your regular credit limit drops by ₱40,000 immediately

With Madness Limit:

  • The ₱40,000 is charged to your Madness Limit
  • Your regular credit limit remains mostly untouched

This becomes especially helpful if you still need your card for daily spending like fuel, groceries, or emergencies.

Even though it sounds like “extra money,” the Madness Limit is still part of your total credit exposure. You’re still responsible for paying it.

Here are a few important reminders:

  • It’s not available to all cardholders, BPI assigns it based on your credit profile
  • It’s typically used for installment transactions only (not straight purchases or cash advances)
  • Your monthly amortizations still appear in your billing statement and must be paid on time

Missing payments can still lead to interest charges and affect your credit standing.

It depends on how you use it.

Used wisely, it’s a powerful tool for:

  • Managing large purchases
  • Keeping your main credit limit available
  • Spreading out expenses without financial strain

But if you treat it as “extra free credit,” it can lead to overspending.

The BPI Madness Limit is essentially a dedicated installment credit line that gives you more breathing room when making big purchases.

It doesn’t increase your spending power without consequences, but it does give you more flexibility in how you use your credit card.

If you already have access to it, the smart move is simple: use it for planned, necessary purchases, and always make sure the monthly payments fit comfortably within your budget.
